The World Government has many enemies, the most important of which is the Revolutionary Army fighting against it, which has staged coups in several states. The ocean is ruled by three great powers: the Marines, the Seven Great Corsairs and the Four Sea Emperors, the first two of which are ruled by the World Government. The story of the series begins with the execution of Gol D. Roger, a pirate who achieved wealth, fame and power. In his last words, he announces that he has hidden his main treasure, called the One Piece, in a certain place, and calls on everyone to find it. After the execution of the pirate king, many brave souls go to the Grand Line in search of One Piece. Thus begins the great era of piracy, and further events unfold around it. A boy named Monkey D. Luffy meets the famous pirate — Red Shanks. After accidentally eating a Devil Fruit, Luffy almost died at sea, but Shanks saved him with his own hands. Later, as Shanks and his crew leave the city, Luffy promises him that he will find One Piece and become the Pirate King. Shanks promises Luffy his straw hat and promises that when Luffy becomes king of the pirates, he will return it. 10 years later, Luffy sets out on a journey across the Eastern Blue Ocean to assemble a crew, later known as the Straw Hats.
