Tower of Hanoi and the three-peg disk transfer puzzle

Tower of Hanoi gives you the classic three-peg disk puzzle: move the full stack from one side to another, one disk at a time, and keep every move legal by placing only smaller disks on larger ones. That simple rule turns the whole board into a pure logic problem, because every choice changes the next route.

Each move matters, since a blocked disk can force you to undo several steps before the stack opens again. The clean layout leaves no extra clutter, so every move changes the route. That is why the game also works as an educational exercise in planning: you read the order, shift the helper pieces, and rebuild the tower in descending size. With three pegs and a fixed starting stack, the trick is to break one big goal into a few smaller transfers. You can play free online in your browser with no download or signup, and it runs well on mobile and desktop.

Use the smallest disk to open a path

Because every move is legal only in one direction, you can replay the same layout and look for cleaner routes. The smallest disk often becomes a temporary bridge, while the largest piece usually waits until the target peg is almost empty. That makes the puzzle a solid brain warm-up when you want a quick round and a clear goal on a small board.

As a tower puzzle, it keeps the focus on one stack and one rule, so the route is easy to read but hard to rush. If you enjoy Spider Solitaire Classic, you will recognize the same habit of protecting an order while you free space for the next move. Spider Solitaire has a similar stack-management feel, where a wrong placement can trap a sequence and slow your progress. No extra modes, just the ordering rule in front of you, and each restart gives you another chance to find a shorter sequence.
