Tetris is a game about stopping the blocks from reaching the top of the screen. They fall from above one by one, and you have to rotate each piece and slot it into place. As soon as a row is filled completely, it disappears and everything above it drops down.
How to clear lines
The main rule is simple: don’t leave gaps. A single empty square under a piece blocks the whole row, and the only way to clear it is to rebuild everything above it. That’s why experienced players place pieces tightly, even if it slows them down. Classic Tetris keeps the original rules unchanged.
The pace speeds up on its own
With every level, the pieces fall faster. In the first few minutes, you can think through every move; after that, you have to decide in a second. That’s where the challenge comes from: the field fills up not because you don’t know where to place things, but because you run out of time. In Tetrollapse, the speed-up is noticeable by level three.
Modern twists
Alongside the classic version, there are variants with changed rules. Pentris uses five-block pieces instead of four, which creates more combinations and breaks familiar patterns. Block Puzzle removes falling altogether: you’re given three pieces at a time, and you decide where to place them. Sand Block Blast turns the blocks into loose sand that flows across the board.
Puzzle games on the same board
The piece-stacking mechanic isn’t used only in Tetris. Block Sudoku combines it with Sudoku: you need to place blocks so they clear rows, columns, and squares. More logic puzzles are collected in the logic section.
