GrandMa's Delicious Cakes - escape from home with cakes
You're playing as an exterminator. A sweet old lady invites you to drive the rodents out of her house, and at the same time treats you to cake. The trap is that leaving home is no longer possible. This is a short side story of the Forgotten Hill series, so the horror here is not based on the chases, but on what is behind the doors. If you need the same world, but larger, Forgotten Hill: Puppeteer is suitable - there are more rooms and a longer story.
The mechanics are pure point-and-click. You click on items, they go into your inventory, then you select an item and apply it to an object or door. There is no inventory crafting or combat: everything depends on whether you notice a detail in the room. If you get stuck, the game has a hint button.
Why are cakes more important than rodents?
Rodents are just a reason to get inside. The real challenge is grandma's cakes. They must be tried in the correct order, and the game does not directly name the order. Hints for it are laid out in the rooms, and the cake machine requires you to set the sequence of patterns. The wrong order doesn't kill you, it just doesn't let you go further until you understand the logic.
Clock, radio and two endings
One of the most noticeable components is the clock. First you need to make them work, and then read not only the time, but also the symbols on the clock hands: this determines how to set the radio. There are two endings, and they differ greatly in who the filling ends up being. Access to a good one depends on what you do with one item towards the end. A comparable compact item from the same series is Rise of Pico - A Forgotten Hill Tale, and a longer and darker version is Forgotten Hill: Surgery.
There are few rooms per stage, and the same mechanisms return as the game progresses. Reviewers note that because of this, the riddles are read logically and are rarely perplexing. The game is not suitable for children: some of the scenes are based on bodily deformity. The atmosphere is close to Forgotten Hill The Wardrobe – Chapter 4 – The Price of a Smile, where everything is also decided by one unpleasant detail in the room.
Guide:
- Go around the room and collect all the objects that click.
- Try inventory items on doors and mechanisms, not just what looks obvious.
- Find clues to the order of the cakes before you set the patterns on the machine.
- Make the clock tick, then count the time and the symbols on the clock hands.
- Set the radio according to what the clock showed.
- Before the final, decide what to do with the found item - the ending depends on this.
